  • Top 5 Places To Visit In Kashmir

    1. Srinagar

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, is usually the starting point of most itineraries — and for good reason. The city is home to the iconic Dal Lake, where you can glide across the water in a traditional shikara or spend a night aboard an ornately carved houseboat. Don’t miss the Mughal Gardens — Shalimar Bagh, Nishat Bagh, and Chashme Shahi — laid out with terraced lawns, fountains, and flowerbeds that reflect the grandeur of the Mughal era. The old city’s Jama Masjid and the hilltop Shankaracharya Temple, offering panoramic views of the valley, are also worth a visit. Srinagar’s Polo View Market and Lal Chowk are great spots to shop for Pashmina shawls, papier-mâché crafts, and dry fruits.

    2. Gulmarg

Known as the “Meadow of Flowers,” Gulmarg is Kashmir’s premier hill station and one of Asia’s top skiing destinations. In winter, it transforms into a snow-sports haven with world-class slopes, while summer brings lush green meadows perfect for golfing at one of the world’s highest golf courses. The Gulmarg Gondola, one of the highest cable cars globally, takes visitors up to Kongdoori and further to Apharwat Peak, offering breathtaking views of snow-covered ranges, including glimpses of Nanga Parbat on clear days. Adventure lovers can also try skiing, snowboarding, or a simple sledge ride in the snow.

    3. Pahalgam

Set along the banks of the Lidder River, Pahalgam is a picture-perfect town surrounded by pine forests and rolling meadows. It serves as the base camp for the annual Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage and is equally popular among nature lovers and adventure seekers. Key attractions include Betaab Valley, named after a Bollywood film shot here, the lush Aru Valley, ideal for trekking and camping, and Chandanwari, the starting point of the Amarnath Yatra and a popular spot for sledging even in summer. Pahalgam is also a favorite for horseback riding, river rafting, and simply soaking in the tranquility of the mountains.

    4. Sonmarg

Aptly named the “Meadow of Gold,” Sonmarg is a gateway to some of Kashmir’s most spectacular high-altitude landscapes. It’s the last major town before the Zoji La Pass, which connects Kashmir to Ladakh. The star attraction here is the Thajiwas Glacier, accessible via a scenic pony ride or trek, where visitors can enjoy snow activities even during summer months. Sonmarg is also the starting point for several trekking routes, including the stunning Vishansar and Krishansar twin lakes. The drive to Sonmarg itself, lined with pine forests and gushing streams, is an experience in itself.

    5. Yusmarg

A lesser-explored gem, Yusmarg — meaning “Meadow of Jesus” — is a quiet, offbeat destination perfect for travelers looking to escape the crowds. Surrounded by pine forests and grassy meadows, it offers pony rides, short treks, and access to the picturesque Doodh Ganga River. This is the place to visit if you want Kashmir’s beauty without the tourist rush.
